This is information, not legal advice
MyAIDefence is not a solicitor and does not provide legal advice. The service uses artificial intelligence to summarise law and procedure for the public, drawing on a database of UK case law and a civil litigation procedure book.
How the AI works
When you ask a question, our system retrieves relevant cases and procedural sections from our database, then asks a third-party AI model (currently Claude, by Anthropic) to compose a plain-English answer with citations. Drafts of letters and forms are produced the same way.
What you should know about AI output
- It can be wrong. AI models occasionally produce inaccurate, incomplete, or out-of-date information, and may misinterpret a case
- It does not know your full situation. A real solicitor would ask follow-up questions, examine documents in detail, and apply professional judgment
- It cannot represent you. Only solicitors and barristers can give legal advice or appear in most courts on your behalf
- Citations should be checked. Always read the underlying case before relying on it. We provide links to the source where possible
- Limitation periods matter. If your matter has a deadline you must act within it. The AI may flag this but you must verify
When to consult a real lawyer
You should consult a qualified solicitor or barrister if any of the following apply: the dispute is worth more than you can afford to lose; criminal proceedings are involved; the matter is urgent (e.g. injunctions, possession orders, removal of children); the law is unsettled or you need representation in court above the small claims track. We can refer you to a panel solicitor in our Panel mode if you want.
Our limit of responsibility
By using the service you accept that we are not responsible for any decision you take, or fail to take, in reliance on AI output. If a matter is significant to you, get a qualified opinion. See clauses 10 and 11 of our Terms of Service.
